Opened in 1929 and located in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood, the Music Box Theatre will temporarily close their 700-seat main auditorium next month for updates, including new carpeting, aisle lighting, and most notably, new seats.

Rebuilding Exchange is excited to announce a special deconstruction partnership to salvage the decades-old vintage seats and make them available for purchase to the public. This initiative aims to preserve a piece of local history while providing valuable on-the-job training to individuals in our Workforce Training Program. Their smaller theater will remain open during this time.

Once salvaged, the seats will be sold through our two material reuse stores, allowing their legacy to live on and to be cherished by fans of the Music Box Theatre for generations to come.

While these upgrades aim to modernize the theater, the charm that has captivated audiences for nearly a century will remain intact, and the upgraded seats will be the same style as the seats being removed. This project combines our missions of material diversion, community empowerment, and historical preservation, and we are grateful for the opportunity to partner on this renovation.
